External DVR

My desktop's internal combo drive crapped out a while back.  Luckily Fallout 3 had a built in work around to forcing you to use the cd to get the pop up auto play thingy to launch the game.  I have not been able to play Sim City 4 when I got the craving a month or two ago.

Anyway, I decided I needed a new combo drive when I purchased Fallout New Vegas.  I decided to get an external one for about $55 bucks on sale rather than get a $40 internal drive on a PC that I want to replace soon and not have to mess with installing it on the old tower, removing for a new pc, and installing it on the new PC.  So far I've been impressed with the external drive.  It has plug n play capability which is nice.  And if I ever get a tablet PC or something for the living room or my wife's CD drive on her laptop craps out, this thing will be nice to use to install software, read discs, or burn stuff upstairs.

I purchased a Pioneer DVR-XD10, slim portable USB2.0 DVD/CD Writer.  It does take up 2 USB ports that need to be close.

External drive:  recommended.

Random

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.  Ok not really.  Just a intro post to setup the rest of the Random label for the blog pages.

Science and Technology

This is a broad topic just covering anything relating to science, gadgets, engineering, or maybe work related humor.  More to follow.

Politics

Won't post much on this right now.  Elections are Tuesday.  Go Vote.  This country has to get turned around.

Fantasy Football

My team sucks this year.  I'm 3-4.  Injuries are killing me.  PT might just be out until the Saint's bye week and even then I don't know.  DWill is hurt now with a "minor" foot injury.  Cmon man.  You're a bust right now.

My WR have stepped up:  Nicks, Harvin, and Welker (although he's been worse with Moss gone, we'll see if he returns to glory).  Bess is stepping up for bye weeks and maybe for Welker.

And Peyton is anchoring my team at QB.  Although his little bro did light it up last week for me with 3 TD's and 2 of them to Nicks for some double dipping.

We'll see how my injury team fairs this week and with Nicks on bye.

Fallout: New Vegas

Picked up this game yesterday.  Haven't had a chance to play it much.  Only through the character creation but I'm pumped to explore another Fallout world.

The original Fallout is one of my favorite games of all time.  It had great humor with the 50's post apocalyptic theme.  The character creation was great and you couldn't make a super all around character and forced you to develop them to a play style allowing for great re playability.  Fallout 2 and Tactics were similar.

Fallout 3 was great.  Bethesda did a great job not messing with the franchise too much.  They did make the game pretty easy.  I recently replayed the game and found myself steamrolling.

So far the character creation in New Vegas is shaping up to be a lot more like Fallout 1 and 2.  Looking forward to playing this one more.  Stay tuned.

Minnesota Vikings

I am a Minnesota Vikings fan.  Unfortunately.  The Vikes have regressed back into a disappointing team that I dread watching play.  Last year was great.  They scored points, they led games, they allowed the D line to dominate knowing the other team was going to pass.  Rodeo Jarred Allen was actually allowed to rope a calf without being fined (what a stupid new rule).  Although, then again, this year he hasn't had many opportunities to rope that calf.

We had a 40 year old quarterback who was playing like he was still in his prime.  What a difference a year makes.  Now the offensive line can't pass block to save their life (good thing they got rid of Chester Taylor who was fantastic on 3rd down).  Farve is showing his junk around to reports who look like his wife, his elbow is inflammed, his ankle is broken in two spots, and his passer rating is garbage.

I can't believe that the Vikes may be better off with T-Jax.  Really?  The guy who looks great on 2 downs, then follows up on 3rd with a perfect pass 3 feet in front his receive right in the dirt.

The Vikes have regressed into the painful, frustrating, no good, no fun to watch, team that I have watched since I was 4 years old.  They have had maybe 2 or 3 memorable seasons that were exciting.

1)  1998.  Moss was a rookie.  Cunningham's noodle arm could barely heave it to Moss but Moss went up and got it.  He took the NFL by storm.  "We're Going to Miami" was a hit song and the Vikes had their own version when they were rolling late in the season.  But then that Atlanta NFC championship game.  Gary Andersen hadn't missed a kick all year.  His wife even divorced him midway through the season.  And it must have all came crashing down on that one kick.  Missed field goal.  I still remember exactly where I was and froze in terror as he missed.

2)  2007.  Peterson's rookie year.  He showed some flashes of brilliance with the single game rushing record.  He was exciting to watch and made it fun to see us get someone who could break away on any play.

3)  2009.  Farve.  Sidney Rice becoming a stud.  Harvin being explosive.  The defense doing their thing.  Winning.  Enough said.

Welcome to "Stuff My Wife Won't Listen To".

Welcome to the blog.  My goal with this blog is to capture my thoughts on topics that my wife won't discuss with me, from Sports to Video Games to Science to Politics, while injecting humor or at least sharing my frustrations with other like minded individuals who may have the same issue.
